What are, or should be, the main characteristics of agroecological innovations ? (sentences or key words) : They should be based on endogenous development principles, ie,
- building on farmers/communities indigenous and local knowledge,
- farmers traditional ecological farming practices
- farmers worldviews.
Why are these characteristics important for agroecological transitions to sustainable food systems ? : Ecological agriculture is not a new science. It is the art of working with nature which is what farmers and communities all over the world have been doing for millennia before it got disrupted by so called modern science/industrial agriculture.
