Innovation in general, and agricultural innovation in particular, has been a major engine for agricultural transformation in the past century. Innovations are expected to be pivotal to support the transformative and context specific approach of agroecology regarding the issues of a rapidly growing population and increased pressure on natural resources in a context of climate change. Promoting innovation for sustainable agriculture is not just inventing new technologies or products, but also facilitating innovation processes that can stimulate new ideas, technologies, products and practices from a variety of actors (and particularly from farmers) around the world.
